Telangana’s Visionary Plan: AI City to Redefine Hyderabad’s Tech Arena

The AI City on 200 acres in Hyderabad was announced by Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy at Global AI Summit 2024. It will be a place where AI researchers, global corporations, universities and startups will collaborate. The AI City will have high performance computing centers and data hubs to support large scale AI innovations. “If we think of India’s future, no city is as ready for it as Hyderabad,” said the Chief Minister. “We are ready for AI. We will create AI’s future and set standards.” This is a big step towards building an AI ecosystem that will drive innovation.

Besides AI solutions, the AI City will also be a place where citizens can engage with AI through immersive experiences, interactive programs and educational opportunities. The government plans to set up an AI Skilled University and an Experiential Centre to build an AI talent pool.

Next Gen AI

At the summit, IT and Industry Minister D. Sridhar Babu said the state will leverage AI as a key driver of Telangana’s economy. The state is targeting to make Hyderabad a top 25 global AI innovation hub in the next 10 years in sectors like agriculture, healthcare, education, law enforcement and mobility. The state has already partnered with various companies and institutions for different components of the AI City.

While the AI City is being built, AI companies can start functioning from an interim space provided by World Trade Centre in Shamshabad which has 200,000 sq ft of office space. The state’s aim is to make Telangana a trillion dollar economy in the next 10 years and AI is going to be a key driver of this growth.

Global Attention at the Summit

The Global AI Summit 2024, inaugurated by the Chief Minister at Hyderabad International Convention Centre, had over 2,000 delegates from industry, academia and government sectors. Around 150 speakers from around the world spoke at the event which focused on responsible AI, innovation and governance. Special Chief Secretary for IT, Jayesh Ranjan described the summit as a “first of its kind” event to position Telangana at the forefront of AI.

“AI is the next big thing in this continuum of innovation,” said the Chief Minister. “AI is both hope and fear. But Hyderabad will lead the way and the state government will ensure AI is for the society.”

Telangana’s AI Vision

Telangana government’s AI roadmap includes the Telangana AI Mission (T-AIM) with NASSCOM to drive AI adoption across industries. It’s framework is about responsible deployment, data sharing, talent development and community collaboration to make AI technology reach the masses. The state’s commitment to AI has also got a boost with the launch of Applied AI Research Centre and Centre for Responsible Deployment of Emerging Technologies (CRDET) to use AI for good.

“The AI City will be a vibrant ecosystem for the AI industry where organisations can scale up and citizens can directly experience the power of AI,” said Sridhar Babu. With global partners Telangana will be a national and global AI hub and the state will always be at the forefront of technology.
